Elephant Energy’s 2025 year in review
A turning point for heat pumps — and for us
2025 was a big year for Elephant Energy.
Since launching in 2021, our mission has stayed simple: make heat pumps effortless and accessible for every home — no matter the income, home type, or complexity. This year, that mission showed up at a whole new scale. Homeowners embraced heat pumps in record numbers, validating what we’ve believed all along: when you lead with clarity, transparency, and good guidance, people are ready to make the switch.
More installs. More markets. More teammates. More impact.
Here’s a look back at the milestones that defined 2025 and a peek at what’s ahead.
2,000 projects installed (and counting)
In 2025, we completed our 2,000th project. (!!!)
That’s a whole lot of heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, EV chargers, panel upgrades, and — most importantly — comfier, safer homes. It took us 15 months to install our first 100 heat pumps. Today, we’re helping thousands of homeowners every year cut fossil fuel use and future‑proof their homes.
The Herd grew to 65
None of this happens without our people and our local trade partners.
In 2022, Elephant Energy hired its very first employee. In 2024, we crossed 30. And by the end of 2025, we welcomed our 65th teammate.
We like to think of the Herd the same way we think about a heat pump (have you ever seen the inside of a condenser?!): lots of different parts doing different jobs, all working together to keep things running smoothly. From sales and operations to installs, policy, and partnerships — every role plays a part in keeping homes comfy.

One of our favorite traditions? Bringing our team together twice a year at our Colorado headquarters. We’re spread across the country, so those moments — whiteboarding, problem‑solving, corn-holing, beer drinking, and mulching trees at Sloan’s Lake — mean a lot.

Expanding into new markets (hello, California 👋)
2025 was also a year of geographic growth.
We expanded deeper into Massachusetts and officially installed our first heat pump in California — two of the fastest‑growing heat pump markets in the country.
- California has set a goal to install 6 million heat pumps by 2030. Programs like the California Heat Pump Partnership, Tech Clean Single Family, and local utility rebates (including LADWP) are accelerating adoption — and homeowners still need trusted guidance to navigate it all.

- Massachusetts aims to equip 500,000 homes with heat pumps by 2030 through Mass Save and regional programs. This year also brought a major win: winter electricity discounts for heat pump users, helping offset high winter energy costs when systems are working hardest.

Meet THEIC (the head Elephants in charge)
Herds of elephants are only as strong as their matriarchs — and leaders.

As a company that has its roots in Colorado, we’re SO proud of becoming one of the state’s leading heat pump installers. That growth was fueled by Sean Kuusinen, who we promoted to Colorado General Manager earlier this year. Sean’s leadership helped drive record demand and our highest growth to date, earning Elephant Energy the #1 spot on the Denver Business Journal’s Fast 50 Awards (Medium category).
In California, we brought on Akanksha Mathur as our Los Angeles General Manager. Her focus on partnerships, local training, and operational excellence is already paying off — in just three months, installation volume heading into December tripled.
We also welcomed Brendan Ryan as our New England General Manager. Brendan brings decades of experience at the intersection of public policy, private investment, and clean energy — exactly what’s needed as electrification accelerates across the region.
And behind the scenes, Christine Mikulski, our new Director of Operations Enablement, is helping prepare Elephant for our next phase of growth. With more than a decade of experience across edtech, health tech, and education, Christine is strengthening our systems, improving customer outcomes, and supporting enterprise‑scale initiatives.
Helping homeowners save $5.8 million in rebates
If there’s one thing homeowners asked about most in 2025, it was rebates — and for good reason.
While the expiration of federal tax credits at the end of the year isn’t exactly a highlight of 2025, local and state programs have been going strong:
- Colorado: Xcel Energy rebates now offer roughly $8,000 for heat pumps and $2,000 for heat pump water heaters, stackable with local incentives, the Colorado Heat Pump Tax Credit, and income‑qualified HEAR rebates. In many cases, homeowners can cover 80–100% of their upfront costs with incentives.
- California: Expanded funding through programs like Tech Clean Single Family and LADWP rebates continues to make heat pumps far more affordable — especially for income‑qualified households.
- Massachusetts: Mass Save® still offers up to $10,000 in heat pump rebates, plus 0% financing. And this year’s winter electricity discounts for heat pump users were a major step toward lowering operating costs in colder months.
Across all three states, our team guided homeowners through every step — paperwork included — making sure they actually get the savings they’re eligible for.
More financing options, fewer barriers
To complement rebates, we added new financing options in 2025, giving homeowners more flexibility with $0 down, low interest rate loans with Synchrony and GoGreen.
The goal is simple: meet homeowners where they are and remove cost as a blocker to upgrading to cleaner, more efficient technology.
Making sure no one is left behind
We’re big on getting involved in our communities.
In 2025, we expanded our equity‑focused partnerships, collaborating with seven nonprofits including Groundwork Denver and Energy Outreach Colorado. Together, we helped bring heat pumps to households historically left out of the clean energy transition, reducing energy burdens and improving comfort.
This work supports Colorado’s ambitious goal of reaching 100% net‑zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with heat pumps playing a critical role.

What’s next
Looking ahead, the momentum is real.
Over the next two years, we plan to:
- Enter new markets
- Expand our heat pump offerings to serve more climates and budgets
- Invest in digital tools that make installations even easier and more transparent
As new rebates and policies continue to fuel demand, Elephant Energy remains focused on setting the standard for what a heat pump provider should be: expert‑led, homeowner‑first, and genuinely easy to work with.
Thank you
To our customers, partners, and the Herd — thank you for making 2025 a landmark year. Your trust, collaboration, and belief in what we’re building made all of this possible.
We’re only getting started. The future is bright, the momentum is strong, and we can’t wait to show you what comes next.
